Mindfulness Practice

Mindfulness is essential for living the best life we can live.

Mindfulness is the energy of being aware and awake to our present moment. It is the practice of deeply touching the moments of our everyday lives.

To be mindful is to be awake, present and at one with those around you and with what you are actually doing.

Mindfulness practices are conscious processes designed to bring our body and mind into harmony while we do things like walking, washing dishes, driving a car or taking a shower.

When we practice mindfulness it isn’t special. We do very much the same things as when we are not mindful- walking, sitting, working, eating, etc — except now we learn to do them with mindfulness, with the awareness that we are doing it.

We can practice mindfulness throughout every moment of the day and not just in formal sitting mindfulness practice. We can practice in the kitchen, the bathroom, around town, and while going from one place to another.

We can practice mindfulness in our relationships. In my experience, practicing mindfully relating with another person is one of the more effective paths to growth.

We can practice together as a group or a community, too. When we practice with others, our own mindfulness usually becomes more joyful, relaxed and steady. We are good examples for each other, supporting and reminding each other along the path of practice. With the support of a group, we can practice to cultivate peace and joy within and around us. Our peace is a gift for all of those whom we love and care for.

We can cultivate our solidity and freedom – solidly rooted in our deepest aspirations and free from our suffering, our fears, and our misunderstandings.

Practice like your life depends on it. And, at the same time, enjoy your mindfulness practice with a relaxed and gentle attitude, with an open mind and receptive heart. Make the effort to approach every aspect of your mindfulness practice with curiosity.

Freedom from your suffering is possible, but your odds are much better if you are awake!

Just practice.

Today.

Now.
